Pupils from George Eliot Academy in Nuneaton are celebrating as results of GCSEs and vocational qualifications are revealed today.
Principal Homeira Zakary said, “This year’s results reflect the continued hard work of our pupils and the outstanding work of teachers in ensuring that they achieve their full potential. The last two years have been extremely challenging for our Year 11 pupils and we are proud of the commitment they have shown to their studies with the ongoing and professional support of their teachers. Pupils have also benefited from the fantastic support of their parents, carers, and families during this difficult period.
“Given the disruption caused by the pandemic, and the adjustments that have been made to grade boundaries by awarding organisations, we are not sharing our schools’ results in the usual way and our focus will be on supporting our pupils and helping them to progress on to the next stage in their education, training or employment.”
Holly Parker achieved nine Grades 8 and 9 and is going on to study A Levels. Charlotte King is looking forward to studying fashion at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) after achieving five GCSEs at Grade 7 and above including a Grade 9 for English literature. William Azulay achieved results from Grade 7-5 and will be starting a catering and hospitality course at NWSLC. Darren Afolabi achieved four Grade 9s and is going to study maths, chemistry and physics A Levels. Kacie Ballard achieved results from grades 9-5 and is due to join NWSLC. Harvey Parsons achieved six Grade 9s and four Grade 8s and is also moving on to study A Levels.
Kacie said, "I am shocked, because I've never achieved a Grade 9 before, and I got one for English Language! I'm so happy. My peers helped so much in me achieving these results."
Harvey said, "I am so happy with my results. The school has really helped me to get where I am, taught me how to revise, and encouraged me to put in the maximum amount of effort."
Darren Afolabi said, "I am feeling spectacular. I am most proud of design technology and history grades as I found these difficult. Getting these results makes me feel really proud. The teachers helped to make everything clear and supported my memory, and they made sure behaviour wasn't a problem in school so that I could learn."
William said, “I feel really happy! I achieved better in English than I expected, and the school’s interventions really helped me. I think I attended over 90 sessions in Year 11 and my hard work seems to have paid off.”
Holly said, “I've been counting down the days; it has been an anxious wait. My teachers have been great, and all the extra sessions really helped but it still doesn't feel real.”
Charlotte said, "I am in shock. Speechless. It's just not what I was expecting. I never thought I would get a Grade 9 for English literature. I kept going over my quotes and revised using the videos on YouTube. I worked very hard in the run up to the exams. I started working hard in Year 10; I focused and knew I had to try my hardest as early as I could. All the hard work now feels so worthwhile. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Miss Hibbins, Miss Raynes and Mr Clark.”
Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Chief Executive of the Midland Academies Trust said, “Congratulations to all our pupils who are collecting GCSE results today. They have shown a great deal of determination in tackling the unique circumstances of the pandemic, and we are exceptionally proud of their achievements.
“Gaining good GCSE grades, especially in the core subjects of maths and English, is so important to pupils’ future progress. Our teachers have set high expectations of all our pupils, who have consistently been supported to maintain their learning and continue to progress. We wish them the best of luck for the future as they take their next steps.”
