Pupils and staff at George Eliot Academy in Nuneaton have been celebrating after winning the School Games Silver Mark Award for 2021-22 for their commitment to, and engagement in, school sports activities and physical education.
The School Games is a Government-led awards scheme launched in 2012 and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise schools’ commitment to keeping young people active and enthusiastic about sports. The awards process measures schools on five key outcomes against national benchmarks
Homeira Zakary, Principal of George Eliot Academy said, “We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible.
“We are committed to using the School Games to engage young people who haven’t previously been involved with physical activity and encourage them to represent our school by ensuring that all our pupils have a positive experience. We believe in the power of physical activity and the importance of sport in school and work hard to provide opportunities for young people to benefit from a range of activities.”
Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Chief Executive of the Midland Academies Trust which sponsors the school, said, “This is a fantastic achievement for everyone at George Eliot Academy and I would like to add my thanks to the PE team who have shown incredible commitment to improving and developing opportunities both inside and outside the school.
